David married Mary Miles Trowbridge on 13 Feb. 1866 in Chatham, Licking, Ohio. He and Mary were blessed with their first child Edward "Eddie" in January of 1867. Tragically, when Eddie was nine years old, he disappeared while on his way to school. He was lost Feb. 13, 1876 and was found April 15, 1876 twelve miles from the school on the Owl River. At the time of his death, Eddie had three siblings, Charles Russell 8 yrs old, Grace Mary 4 yrs old, and baby brother George Frederick nearly one year old. David and Mary later had four additional children George Frederick, Phillip Bishop, Elizabeth Mary "Bess", and the youngest child Benjamine Smith. David had served in the Civil War. His war records indicate he was 5'8" and weighed 143 pounds at age 52. He was captured by the Confederate Army and held for 28 days until the War ended. He was discharged on 10 June 1865. After the war, he and Mary lived in Licking County, McClean County, Loveland, Colorado, and eventually moved to Larimer County, Wyoming. In 1912, he and Mary went out to Ohio to the funeral of a close relative. While there, he had a stroke and shortly thereafter he died. After his burial at Evans Cemetery, Newton Township, Licking County, Ohio, his wife returned to Wyoming and lived with her son Phillip until her death in 1914. She was then taken to Ohio to be interred next to her husband. David was a farmer, carpenter, and sheeprancher. His son George Frederick went up to Alaska and was never heard from again.
