Daughter of Jane Glen and Robert Loughead of Chester County, Pennsylvania.

Married Captain James McDowell 15 November 1764 in Concord Township, Chester, Pennsylvania.

She and her husband moved to a farm in the eastern portion of Chester County. Their home still stands (as of 2010) and a stone in the chimney is marked "1775 Jas McD".

Buttonwood Farm with the Ruston/McDowell grist mill is located where Rt 896 crosses the north branch of Big Elk Creek below US Route 1 and above Rt 796.

They owned and operated a store in the Lincoln Station vicinity. The store is near Lincoln University and not in Delaware County. It is between Lincoln University and West Grove, PA.

Elizabeth was the mother of eight children.

"Farmhouse, grist mill and millers house still stand in the western part of Chester County, still Chester County on Rt 896 Newark Rd between Russellville and Elk View Station."

Elizabeth's husband was a decorated patriot of the Revolutionary War:

Captain James McDowell organized a company of Chester County Militia ("4th Battalion of Chester County Associates"). James later commanded a company in General Thomas Mifflin's Brigade during the Revolutionary War. Part of Captain McDowell's company was left to brighten the camp fires along the Assunpink Creek while Washington and his army silently left Trenton that night, marching to Princeton, New Years of 1777. The sword this patriot carried at his side when our forefathers fought for independence was very plain, its sheath of rough leather, showing it was made for business and not for dress or parade occasions.
