Sometimes called Jan or John, Johannes Braschler was the son of Hendrik Braschler and Antje Timmer of Breukelen, Utrecht, Netherlands. He was a baker at the age of 26 when he married Antje Masmeijer (aka Masmeyer) on 17 May 1829 in Loosdrecht, Utrecht, Netherlands (currently in the municipality of Wijdemeren, North Holland). Several years later, in the summer of 1847 they moved to the US with their 8 children, traveling on the SS Preciosa. They lived for a few years in Bergen County, NJ but finally settled in South Holland, IL.
