Ed Vail, Jr., 84, of Hamburg died Friday, July 23, 2010, at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. A native of Marigold, MS, and a resident of Hamburg since 1962, he was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy. He was a retired automobile mechanic, a member of the Gardner Baptist Church and an avid gardener and farmer.

He is survived by two sons, Bruce Vail of Hamburg and James "Buddy" Vail of Monticello; two daughters, Darlene King of Hamburg and Rose Mary Young of Crossett; two brothers, Pete Vail of Bastrop, LA, Lane Vail of Monroe, LA; 11 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Pope Vail, in 1982; a granddaughter, Jolynn Kuebler; a great-great-granddaughter, Alicia Pickins; his parents, Ed and Ronnie Jeffcoat Vail; two sisters, Corrine Roberts and Imogene Adcock; and four brothers, Mac Norris Vail, Arnold Vail, Leroy Vail and James Vail.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25, in the chapel of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home with Revs. Boyd Savage and Charles Pullin officiating. Burial followed at the Crossroads Cemetery. Pallbearers were B.J. Vail, Jamie Vail, Michael McDonald, Bradley McDonald, Scott Young and Cody King. Honorary pallbearers were Zack Young and Todd Kuebler.
