James Melvin Elmore, 87, died June 12 at the Hamilton General Hospital in Hamilton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 15 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Hamilton with Rev. Jim Townsend officiating.
Mr. Elmore was born May 22, 1913, in Huntington, Ark., the son of Thomas Houston and Mary Alice Elmore. He was married to Lee Ora Hale in Shamrock on March 24, 1932. She preceded him in death on Sept. 14, 1996.
He was a farmer and a rancher until he joined the United States Army during World War II where he served in the Infantry. He was involved in the European Theatre where he fought bravely and was wounded.
Mr. Elmore returned home from the war a disabled veteran without regret or complaint. He was an American Patriot, a devoted husband and father, a grandfather and a great-grandfather. He was a resident of Hamilton for more than 60 years and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
His wife, his parents, four sisters and five brothers preceded him in death.
Survivors include three sons, James Morgan Elmore, Donald Wayne Elmore and Addis Paul Elmore; a sister, Cora Gregson; a brother, Glen Elmore; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren as well as extended family and a host of devoted friends.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Massingill, Billy Cole, Denzil Lacy, Ted Conner, Jerry Miller Gunn, Eddie Elmore and Jim Bingham.
Honorary Pall Bearers will be Melvin Henkes and Pete Jordan.
