Harold Alderman, Sr.

Harold W. Alderman, Sr., 74, 2400 N. Highview Ave., died at 9:25 p.m. Tuesday at Freeman Hospital after a sudden illness. Mr. Alderman was born Aug. 3, 1916, in Joplin and was a lifetime resident. He was a nitroglycerin operator at Atlas Powder Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church, where he was a trustee for more than 30 years and a deacon for 21 years. He married Mona Johnson on Aug. 9, 1953, at Monett. She survives. Additional survivors include a son, Harold Alderman, Jr., Baxter Springs, Kan.; two daughters, Donna Phillips, Joplin, and Doris Jeffreys, Maynardville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; and five great-stepgrandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Free Will Baptist Church. The Rev. Richard Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Mitchell, Chris Mitchell, David Phillips, Dennis Campbell, Terry Charles, and Larry Newton. Deacons of the church will be honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Contributions may be made to the First Free Will Baptist Church, in care of the mortuary or the church.
