Margaret "Peggy" Day Patterson, the daughter of Mordecai Day and Susannah Whitely, was born on December 15, 1834 in Grayson County, Kentucky. She was the wife of John Marion Patterson, the son of William Morgan Patterson and Susannah Shain. He was born on November 9, 1828. At the time of the 1880 Census of Spring Lick, Grayson County, Kentucky the John Marion Patterson family consisted of: J. M., a farmer, age 51; his second wife, Rebecca, age 39; and his children by Margaret: Sarah E., age 19; Melvina A., age 18; Perry A., age 16; Rosa L., age 14; Henry C., age 12; Ida V., age 11; Clement C., age 9; Maggie D., age 8; and an unnamed male 17 year old Patterson cousin. All were born in Kentucky with their parents born in Kentucky.

Margaret Day Patterson died at the age of 39 years, 4 months and 14 days on April 29, 1874. She was buried in the Paterson Cemetery located on the Clem Patterson Farm in Short Creek, Grayson County, Kentucky. John Marion Patterson joined her there after his death at the age of 65 years, 7 months and 29 days on July 7, 1894.
