Sam served in the Civil War. He was in the 42nd Virginia Inf.Co. F. He enlisted June 22 1961 in Henry County. He was present on all rolls until he was discharged in Romney West Virginia on January 28 1962 because of disability. He suffered a hernia on the left side caused by a fall on ice while marching on the road between Bath (Berkeley Springs W Va) and Romney.

They were also living on Turkeycock Creek when Samuel died on March 13 1862. He died with inflamation of the brain. His death record lists him as being 41 years old, 2 months and 19 days old. This was just over a month after he was discharged from service. His death could very well have happened because of the serious fall.
It is not known when Jane passed away.
