Mary was the daughter of William Rogers, Sr. and Rosanna "Rosey" Hurd.

Mary's mother died in 1806--the year after Mary was born--and her father then married his widowed sister-in-law, Mrs. Susannah (nee Walling) Hurd. Her first husband had been John* Hurd, the brother of Mary's mother.

Mary was married to John Smith of Pennsylvania. Their first son was born in Kentucky in 1841.

The family moved to Calhoun County, Illinois by 1844. John worked there as a farmer, and Mary gave birth to at least 5 more children.

John died of pneumonia in May of 1860.

Mary lived until 1876. At the time of her death, she was 70 years, 11 months and 3 days old.

In addition to her mother and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her father and step-mother.

Children: 5 sons, 1 daughter.
