ASHFORD CHRISTIAN DIED IN THIS CITY

PROMINENT ORLAND MAN DIED HERE YESTERDAY AT W. BIELAR HOME

Ashford D. Christian died at the home of his stepdaughter, Mrs. William Bielar, yesterday morning after an illness of a couple of months. He began ailing some months ago and came to Willows where he could be given better medical attention and also have the loving care of a daughter. His passing came as a surprise to his large host of friends as it was not generally known that his condition was critical.
Deceased was one of the prominent men of Orland and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was one of the early settlers of that town and was among the first to see the possibilities of that section as a fruit-growing center. His orchard for years was the showplace of Orland.
Deceased was a native of Marion County, Missouri, where he was born in February 1856 making him 69 years of age. He came to California in 1877 at the age of 21 years and settled at Orland where he continued to live up to coming to Willows a couple of months ago. In October 1923, he buried his wife and since then has been ailing. He was one of a large family of children, all but one of whom are now deceased. Mrs. Cora Morgan [Morin] of Alameda is the last survivor.
The deceased was a member of the Baptist church and a Christian man. Funeral services will be held from the local Baptist church tomorrow afternoon at 2:30. The remains will be laid to rest beside those of his late wife in the Willows cemetery. – Transcribed by E.
