Heartwell resident Glenn "Junior" Coon Jr., 75, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, near his home as a result of a tractor accident.Services were held Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Minden with the Rev. Dr. Bill Hunter officiating. Mr. Coon was born March 10, 1926, to Glenn and Fern (Bliss) Coon near Heartwell. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Minden High School in 1943. On June 17, 1949, he married Joyce Ann Johansen. They farmed near Heartwell. In 1969 his wife died. He owned Hi-Way gas station in Heartwell for several years before working at the Heartwell-Norman Grain Elevator. He later retired and continued to work at the farm.He was a member of Heartwell Lions Club.Survivors are four daughters, Janice Coon of Minden, Marilyn Coon of Hastings, Nancy Coon of Gladstone, Mo., and Betty DeShazer of Denver; two sisters, Loretta Maxwell of Downers Grove, Ill., and Amelia Buchholz of Casper, Wyo.; one brother, Robert of Goose Creek, S.C.; and one grandchild.He also was preceded in death by one sister.
