Son of Marvin & Emaline Davis, brother of Esther (Davis) Hyslop. Father of Alfred, Hiram & Victor Davis.

Born on the family farm near present-day Gaines in Genesee County, Michigan, Allen grew up working on the land. After the family moved to St. Clair County, he married a neighbor girl and together they started their own family, moving first to Muskegon and later to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
