Willie Baines, 84, of Aurora died Tuesday, June 26, 2001. He was born May 1, 1917, in Vicksburg, Miss., to the late Tyler and Ruth Baines.

He accepted Christ at an early age.

He joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He worked at a logging camp for many years and later worked in St. Charles for many years.

He was an active member of Progressive Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, singing and listening to gospel music.

He is survived by a son, Albert (wife Yolanda) Baines of Atlanta; two daughters, Carrie Mae Baines of San Diego and Nichole Baines of Aurora; a brother, Edmond Baines of Detroit; five grandchildren, Franklin, Albert Jr., Antonio, Magalena and Yolanda Rosa; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; his special stepdaughters, Candy, Renee, Louise and Casey; his longtime friends, Bob Colon and Alice Johnson; and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Agusta Salman; his second wife, Lula Mae Gardner; a son, Willie Baines Jr.; and three sisters, Clara, Gertrude and Henreta.

Funeral services took place Saturday, June 30, at Progressive Baptist Church. The Rev. Roy Brown officiated.

Interment took place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
