He had moved to Armstrong/Indiana county area about 1800, coming from Barree Twp., of Huntingdon County, after the death of his father, David Ralston, Sr., who had died in 1798.

David Sr., his wife Sarah were in Barree Twp., Bedford county with their 9 children by 1779 Tax Record. Their eldest son John inherited his father's land. David Jr. sold his to the Lightner family, and youngest son Thomas farmed his own land in Huntingdon county.

David's first wife, Mary Stewart, daughter of Robert Stewart and Catherine Spencer died about the same time as David Jr.'s father, David Sr. The mother Sarah lived with son John, as did her younger daughters. Daughters were Mary, Esther, Jean/Jane, Martha, Margaret and Sarah.

David Ralston, Sr. was a native of Cumberland county. In 1803, he married Agnes Sharp and located in what is now Plum Creek township, Armstrong county, prior to 1798. In 1809, when he came out of a log tavern after dark, he was mistaken for another person, and was struck on the head with a club by a man lying in wait for the other man. The blow thus inflicted soon caused his death. He left three children : David, John and Mary, who married William McCracken. Mrs. Ralston (Agnes) afterwards married James Mitchell. She was the second daughter of Capt. Andrew Sharp, who served as an officer in the Revolutionary war under Washington.
