The 3494th was part of the famous "Red Ball Express" that trucked supplies from Channel and Mediterranean ports, and later interior railheads, to the supply depots and on to front line units. They suffered high casualty rates from accidents brought on by long hours driving on bad roads in bad weather, especially during the winter of 1944-45.
------------
Tec 5 Andrew Abraham, born in 1920, was the grandson of Alex and Ella Abraham from Wynne Township, Cross County in far eastern Arkansas. Wynne is 48 miles due west of Memphis.
In the 1920 census 7 month-old Andrew is living with his paternal grandparents, 6 aunts and uncles, his mother (?, listed as daughter-in-law) and two twin siblings (cousins?) in rural Scott, Poinsett County, Arkansas. Scott is 60 miles northwest of Memphis. His family is farming. In the 1930 census 10 year-old Andrew is living with his paternal grandparents, 3 aunts and uncles, in rural Scott, Poinsett County, Arkansas. In the 1940 census 20 year-old Andrew is living with his paternal grandparents and two younger twin siblings in rural Wynne Township, Cross County, Arkansas. His family is still farming.

In January 1944 the 3494th QM Trk Co was assigned to the Tank Destroyer School at Camp Hood (now Fort Hood), Texas before deploying to the European theater of operations. Each Company consisted of 150 African-American men and 5 white officers and each Company had 3 platoons of 16 trucks each. It returned to the states in August of 1945.

The NARA WWII Casualty Lists by State and County show Tec 5 Abraham as DNB (Died Non-Battle) 9 Apr 1945 so he died in the line of duty from some illness or accident.
