He was born in 1916, in Prestwich, the son of Barnett David and Sophia Silvert (née Fraser), of Lithuania and Russia, respectively. After studying at a Jewish school and in London, Silvert started working in his father's grocer's shop.[1]
Silvert was commissioned on 8 May 1943, in the Royal Army Service Corps. [2] He later volunteered for parachute training and subsequently transferred to 716 (Airborne) Light Composite Company.[3] On 6 June 1944, Silvert parachuted into Normandy on D-Day with three officers and 59 other ranks from his company, and was killed in action.[4]
