Son of Captain Levi and Eunice (Judd) Farnham who emigrated from Connecticut to New York in 1800 and lived on a farm near Pompey Hill, where Eli was born; came to Galesburg in 1839 where he engaged in successfully in farming; married and they had 5 children; united with the Congregational Church in 1829; on coming to Galesburg united with First Church and was soon elected Elder; Trustee of Knox College (1845-82); first public school teacher in Galesburg.
