Alan was a Corporal in the 9th Battalion of the Royal Tank Regiment, R.A.C. (Service Number 7934532). At the time of his death on 10th July 1944 he was aged 36. His memorial is on Panel 8, Column 2. of the Bayeux Memorial, which bears the names of more than 1,800 men of the Commonwealth land forces who died in the early stages of the Normandy campaign and have no known grave. They died during the landings in Normandy, during the intense fighting in Normandy itself, and during the advance to the River Seine in August.
