Private First Class, Company G, 329th Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division, US Army. Entered the service from La Grange, Lenoir County, North Carolina. Killed in action near Barby, Saxony, Germany. Awarded the Purple Heart. He is the subject of the documentary Thank You, Eddie Hart (2005), which has been shown on public television and a number of film festivals.

There is a cenotaph in his memory at Fairview Cemetery in La Grange, North Carolina, where his parents are buried.
