The 80th Infantry Division was engaged at Kassel, Germany from 1-4 Apr 1945. Kassel is half way between Frankfurt and Hanover. The Fulda River runs north to south through Kassel. After the capture of Kassel the 80th moved southeast towards Eisenach and Erfurt. The NARA WWII casualty listings by state and county for Arkansas show Lambert William D, Pfc from Lawrence County as killed in action 11 Apr 1945, one week after Kassel was captured, so we can assume he was killed somewhere just southeast of the Fulda River and Kassel moving toward Eisenach and Erfurt. The 80th entered the Buchenwald concentration camp just northeast of Erfurt on 12 Apr, the day after David was killed.
