---------------
"This is my uncle Ben William Dalby, who was 23 years old when he died from successive injuries on 16 June 1944. He continued to fight and give blood for fellow wounded soldiers after his initial wounds. He is buried in the Brittany American Cemetery.
"I never met the man, but heard about him my whole life. He was the oldest of five Dalby children, and the only boy. My mom, Frances Ann Dalby Holt, was the baby, and she died this past October at age 93.
"One of the absoLUTEly most moving experiences in my life was visiting his grave in 2017, and feeling his presence as we put sand in the letters of his gravestone. Sharing these pics with my mom was also very special. I think it gave her closure.
