Fred was born on 12 JUN 1924 to Pearl Ackerley. The 1940 Census list him living with her in Tulsa, Oklahoma. No census information found on his father. No burial records found for mother or father.

He was killed in the the Battle of Hatten-Rittershoffen in Alsace,France. The was the second phase of what is known as the Battle of the Bulge. The first attacks launched in Belgium on 16 Dec 44 had the objective of the port of Antwerp. The second phase known as Operation North Wind by the Germans had the objective of recapturing Strasbourg. His unit was awarded the Distinguished Unit Citation for heroic participation in the battle fighting against the German 21st Panzer Division.
