Private, U.S. Army, Battery D, 60th Coast Artillery Regiment, World War II.
Taken prisoner by the Japanese at the surrender of the United States Army in the Philippines in 1942. In October, 1944, he was placed aboard the ship Arisan Maru for transport to Japan to be used as slave labor. Unknown to American fighter aircraft that the ship was carrying POW's, the transport was attacked and sunk. Most of the prisoners aboard died as a result of drowning, or being shot by the Japanese guards when they attempted to swim away from the sinking ship.
