George served on the submarine USS Seawolf. The USS Seawolf was reportedly sunk on October 3, 1944, with all hands, by the USS Rowell (DE403) north of the Philippines. The Rowell had mistook the Seawolf for a Japanese sub. The Seawolf had been on a mission to drop Army personnel off on the east coast of Samara.
