Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 17, 1946.

Phillip served as a Sergeant & Radio Operator / Gunner on B-25D #41-30658, 75th Bomber Squadron, 42nd Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Kalamazoo County, Michigan prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on February 4, 1941, prior to the war, in Detroit, Michigan. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in surveying and also as Single, without dependents.

B-25D #41-30658 took off, with a crew of 6, on a bombing mission over Rabaul, East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea.

After a successful bombing run on Rabaul they went missing and are believed to have been shot down and crashed. The entire crew was lost.

Phillip was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
