Reverend David Albert Boileau, a retired Catholic Priest, died peacefully on Monday, January 24, 2011 at Ochsner Medical Center at the age of 80.

Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, he studied for the priesthood at St. John's Seminary in Little Rock, Arkansas and was ordained a priest for the Little Rock Diocese on May 26, 1956. He received degrees from Louvain, Sorbonne, Belgium and Oxford,England.

Fr. Boileau ministered in the Little Rock Diocese from 1956 to 1969. In 1970 he accepted an offer from Loyola University in New Orleans as Director of the Institute for Human Relations and Professor in the Philosophy Department. While teaching at Loyola Father Boileau was in residence at Mater Dolorosa and served as a parochial vicar. He also served as a visiting professor at Notre Dame Seminary. He was incardinated in the Archdiocese of New Orleans on April 8, 1982. He supported equality, social justice and fighting discrimination in labor.

Fr. Boileau authored several books, and had numerous articles published in different magazines. Fr. Boileau retired from active ministry in April 2006.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Joseph and Catherine Fitzgerald

Boileau and is survived by a sister, Eleonor Coffman and nine nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 1230 S. Carrollton Avenue, New Orleans, on Saturday, January 29, 2011 beginning at 9:00 A.M. followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations for Mass at Mater Dolorosa Church or Loyola University's Scholarship Fund for Belgium Studies, 6363 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans, LA 70118, or St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38103, preferred. Arrangements by Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home.
