JOHN WILLIAM SPINKS, 94

Mullin – Funeral services for John William Spinks, 94, a retired farmer and Methodist minister, were to be held at 3 p.m. today in first Baptist Church here with the Rev. B. C. Slate of Gouldbusk officiating. Burial was to be in Oakview Cemetery at Mullin under direction of Roy Wilkins Funeral Home, Goldthwaite.

Mr. Spinks died at 8 p.m. Saturday in a Brownwood nursing home where he had lived about eight years.

Born Oct. 4, 1868 in Williamson County, Mr. Spinks moved to Mullin when a small child. The Rev. Mr. Slate ordained Mr. Spinks a Congregational Methodist minister about 75 years ago.

Mr. Spinks married Miss Ollie Matilda Green Oct. 22, 1893, in Mills County. He farmed at Mullin until his health weakened and the couple moved to Brownwood. He was a member of Mullin Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ollie, of Brownwood; five daughters, Mrs. A. F. Anderson and Mrs. R. V. Leverett, both of Brownwood, Mrs. Warren Wilson of Abilene, Mrs. Howard Davee of Sterling City and Mrs. E. P. Wright of Winters; six sons, Alvin Spinks, Garland Spinks, Frank Spinks and Albert Spinks, all of Mullin, Monroe Spinks of May and Woodrow Spinks of Grant, N.M.; 50 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren and five great-great-great-grandchildren.
