Elizabeth was the daughter of John Brown and Anna Cozzins of Philadelphia. She was married to John Peter Beauveau at Old Swedes Church July 7, 1784. They had at least 6 children born on their sugar plantation in Cap Francois, St Dominique, now Haiti. After her husband died during the island slave revolt in 1802, Elizabeth escaped with her 5 daughters and established a fine boarding house in Philadelphia. Four of her daughters married wealthy foreign merchants with the youngest, Maria Louisa staying home to care for her mother.
