Georgia State Senator and Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court. Born in Lexington, Oglethorpe Co., Georgia, Lumpkin was a graduate of the Univesity of Georgia and Southwestern Baptist University, becoming Socicitor General of the Northern Judicial Circuit of Georgia in 1872. He served as a state Senator from 1878-80 and was elected Judge of the Superior Court of the Northern Judicial District in 1885, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia in 1891 and Presiding Justice of the Second Division in 1897. Justice Lumpkin died in Washington, Wilkes Co., Georgia at the age of 54. He is buried in the Lumpkin Family Cemetery, Oglethorpe Co., Georgia.
