There is some interesting development regarding Henry's uncle Charles H. French aka "Deafy French" that provided some insight into the French family history.
Please go to Find A Grave Memorial# 119465913.
It is probable that his grandparents were James and Theodora French with the possibility his 2nd Great grandfather was an American Revolutionary soldier via Theodora French's life sketch.

As of June 2015; one intermediate family member remains his daughter,
Shirley Betty French Randall, age 89 of Manlius, NY.
Mrs. Jennie Parker French has a niece from her brother, Chester Asbury Parker. She is currently living and her name is Mrs. Betty Jean Parker Figie, age 91 of Central Square, NY. Shirley and Betty are 1st cousins. I took my great aunt Shirley to meet Mrs. Figie in Oct. 2013. It was a fabulous reunion since they had not seen each other for more than 40 years.

Henry's mother, Sarah E. (nee Short) French - Roberts, had a son Charles Crawford who is considered a half-brother as he was born prior to her marriage to Henry's father. There is no evidence that Henry had a middle name or that he was a Junior.
This includes speaking with his daughter, Shirley Betty (nee French) Randall, and she is not aware of him having a middle name. Henry's son, Willard James French, on his WWII Draft Registration Card, has a dash (-) for his father's middle name indicating he has no middle name. Henry even wrote none on his WWII Draft Registration. Geography (past and present residency) of this French family and other known family members, using newspaper archives, obituaries, persons' age, and census have eliminated the possibility that Henry's father was Henry Clay French. - The is no middle initial of "C" on elder Henry's tombstone or on any other documents/records.

Henry and his brothers, James and Daniel, are mentioned in the 1893 Fayetteville, NY Recorder newspaper archive having attended a school in Elkhorn in preparation of school performance of singing, reading, or acting in which they had roles. Jimmie - Opening Address, Dannie - Taking Aim, and Henry - A Plea.

Elkhorn was a small village or hamlet within the Manlius, NY area approximately from the 1880s to the 1930s. They lived on or near High Bridge where Henry (their father) often had issues and confrontations with the Snook family and the pond regarding cutting ice. The elder Henry French had owned half the pond or its west side and the Snooks owned the east side.
It is known the French family was good friends of Goodfellow's who lived there many years prior to the French family's arrival. Also, the Snooks were early settlers as by the 1920s or so the pond eventually was named Snook's Pond.
Young Henry French married Jennie Parker on 4 Jan. 1905 and eventually moved to Camillus. The French family had continued to reside in Manlius/ Fayetteville location for many years. Henry has one surviving daughter who still resides in the area on Brickyard Falls Rd. in Manlius. Not known the specifics as to how the French and Parker family met, but Willard Parker, the father of Jennie Parker, had moved to Syracuse with his wife in 1894 (Eva Parker died in 1895) coming from Constantia, Oswego, NY the other side of Oneida Lake.
"FAYETTEVILLE BULLETIN, FAYETTEVILLE, N.Y., OCTOBER 14, 1910. - Willard Parker has moved into the house at Elkhorn which he recently purchased from Henry French."
** Willard Parker apparently died on Oct. 27, 1910, as found buried at Walnut Grove cemetery in Jamesville, NY. Uncertain why he was buried there. **

In the 1880 U.S. census, the name Betsy appears and she is listed as the mother of elder Henry. However, most likely to be Sarah's mother, Elizabeth (nee Brooks) Short because of age and said birth in NY State as if it was elder Henry's mother Theodora would be a bit older and birth likely to be Rhode Island than New York. Being the last name in the household the auditor likely took her surname to be French rather than Short. It is uncertain and unknown if Theodora French's first or middle name was Betsy or her nickname for Elizabeth. I realize I may have made speculations, interpretations, and may have derived at wrong conclusions while attempting to analyze data, records, newspaper articles, census, and information provided on the internet. I am being as resourceful and as correct as possible. Thank you for your understanding.
