OBITUARY OF MRS. CLARA POPPE

Mrs. Clara Poppe, daughter of the late Henry Grundmann and his wife, Marie nee Ziegler, was born Nov. 11, 1887, at Friedensau, Nebr. In early infancy she was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Trinity Lutheran Church of Hebron by the Rev. Mr. Biedermann. On March 31, 1901, she was confirmed in this church by the Rev. H. Schabacker.

On May 4, 1911, she was united in marriage to John Poppe of Davenport. The couple made their home on a farm in the vicinity of Kiowa, where they were members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. The departed was a charter member of the Ladies Aid of that congregation.

In June of 1955 her husband, John, passed away and departed continued to live on the farm until last May when she moved to Deshler and later became a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

The departed was in failing health for about a year and half. On the 6th of February she was taken to the Reed Hospital here in Deshler and on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 1962, the Lord in His wisdom saw fit to take her to the eternal home in heaven. She reached the age of 74 years, 3 months and 10 days.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, John; one brother and two sisters.

She leaves to mourn her passing; two sisters Mrs. Meta Siebolds of Deshler and Mrs. Elise Rossmiller of Wild Rose, No. Dak.; two brothers Wm. Grundmann of Deshler and John Grundmann of St. Louis, Mo.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in St. Peter's Parish Hall, with the Rev. E.C. Werner officiating. His sermon was based on the text Isaiah 43; 1-3. The congregation sang " A Pilgrim and a Stranger". The male Chorus sand "Jesus Lead Thou On." Interment was made in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery at Kiowa. Pallbearers Fred Grundmann, John Grundmann, Edwin Grundmann, Gilbert Poppe, Lewis McKenzie and Herman Luehrs.

The following relatives from a distance attended the funeral services: Mr. and Mrs. John Grundmann and Fred Grundmann of St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Minnie Grundmann, Marie Grundmann, Mrs. Ella Dawkins, and Mr. and Mrs. John Grundmann, of Shawnee, Okla.; Mrs. Hattie Bohlmeyer and Henry, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Hoffman, and Mr. and Mrs. John Rossmiller, and Carol, of Fairbury; Mr. and Mrs. Adolf Luehrs of OgallaJa; Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Grundmann and Cathy, and Chuck McKeag, of Omaha.
