John was the husband of Lucy Williamson Bath, and father of Sophia Bath Pae. During the War of 1812, he served as a Private in the 19th (Ambler's) Regiment, Virginia Militia.

He died age 64 of "Apoplexy," per Cemetery records. His grave is unmarked.
