An Old Citizen Dead
Mr. Abner Avant Died Last Night After a lingering Illness
Death claimed another old and honored citizen of Gonzales county last night. Mr. Abner Avant died at 2:00 o'clock this morning at his home about 7 or 8 miles west of the Guadalupe river . He was in his 70th year, and came to Gonzales county in 1852. He was surrounded by his children at the time of his death , as he has been seriously ill for about 30 days. His illness was due to overheat, running into slow fever. His remains will be interred in the cemetery at Wrightsboro Friday morning at 9:00 o'clock. He was one of the old and honored citizens of the county. He was honest, generous and kind in all his dealings with his fellow man, and no one knew Mr. Avant but to honor and like him as a man or citizen . A host of friends in the county will sympathize with the bereaved family in their sorrow and feel a loss in their own hearts of a good old friend.
