Mrs. King, 70, Dies Following Long Illness

Mrs. Abbie King, 70, of Estherville, died 5:30 p.m. yesterday [October 5, 1949] at Holy Family Hospital following an illness of many months. She had been ill about two years suffering from heart ailments and complications.

Her maiden name was Abbie Albert, and she was born July 7, 1879 at Brandon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Albert. She came to Emmet county with her parents in 1891 and received her education in the Estherville public schools.

In 1896 she married Alfred King, of Independence, a childhood sweetheart. For a short time after their marriage, King operated a meat market in Estherville, then the couple moved to Mason City where King was affiliated with the Decker meat packing company. In 1919, the couple moved to Clear Lake and continued to live there until her husband's death in 1938.

Mrs. King continued her residence at Clear Lake during the summer months and spent the winters in Florida until her last illness which began about two years ago. Since that time, she has spent most of the time with her mother, Mrs. Amanda Albert, of Estherville.

Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Albert; a brother, Michael Albert of Montgomery; two sisters, Merta Albert of Estherville and Mrs. E. M. Nelson of Brainerd, Minn., as well as three nieces.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Sandin funeral parlor, the Rev. John DeLong officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery. Friends who wish to pay their last respects may do so by calling at Sandins anytime tomorrow and Saturday up to the time of the service. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 6, 1949)
