Pastor Emeritus of St. Mel's Catholic Church, Fair Oaks, CA, passed away peacefully in the Parish Rectory on March 4, 2006. A native of Gortnahoe, County Tipperary, Ireland, age 82 years. Preceded in death by parents, Richard and Mary Doheny; brother Michael; and sisters, Mary, Sr. Catherine (Kitty) and Sr. Angela. Survived by sister Nora; and brothers Bill, John and Ned. Served the people of the Sacramento Diocese for 58 years, founding pastor of St. Paul's Parish, Sacramento and pastor of St. Mel's Church for the past 30 years. He had a great devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and Eucharistic devotion, and was well known for his loyalty, generous hospitality, exceptional memory, quotation of poetry and Shakespeare, love of history, cooking, gardening and golf. Friends are welcome for visitation Tuesday 5-7PM, followed by Holy Rosary 7PM at ST. MEL'S CATHOLIC CHURCH (4745 Pennsylvania Ave., Fair Oaks).
