ELLA GARRISON
February 14, 1868, Ella Cool, the youngest of three children, was born in Anamosa, Iowa, to Jerome and Amanda Cool. Her sister died in infancy. After the death of her father in Creston, Iowa, she with her 17-year-old brother Eugene, and her mother, came to Kansas by prairie schooner in 1879. They moved onto a farm 13 miles north of Delphos, 160 acres of land, for which her mother had paid a four-year-old colt, an old wagon, and $100. They lived on this place until 1883, when they moved to Delphos. Her brother was a barber here for many years, and later in Miltonvale.
In the 1890's Ella was united in marriage to Herbert Seymour.

In 1918 she was married to James H. Garrison in Minneapolis, Kansas. Two years later they moved to Mayetta, Kansas, where they lived until after his death thirteen years ago. Later she came back to Delphos to make her home, until January 1951, when she went to Glasco to live with her nephew, Seymour Shobe who lived in her home for many years. There she passed away on March 14, 1951, at the age of 83 years, and one month. She was a cousin of the late L. H. Cool.

She leaves cherished memories to these nephews, namely, Gail Cool, Chester Cool, Mark Cool, and Seymore Shobe, and many cousins and friends.

Several received their start in music from her instruction, and from her nimble fingers many a fine seam has been sewn for bride and shroud alike. Although she had no children, many homeless boys will always remember her tender care.

Funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian Church in Delphos on Friday afternoon, March 16, at 2:00 o'clock, with the Rev. Clyde Wolf officiating. Music was furnished by a male quartet composed of Louis Cool, Lester Pilcher, Leon Amberg, and James Cleaver, singing "Beautiful Sunset Hour" and "In a Land Where We Never Grow Old." Mrs. Fred Harper accompanied at the piano. Pallbearers were Joe Cool, Ad Rogers, Herman Bates, Roger Ballou, Rollo Rogers, and Richard King. Flower bearers were Ethel Bates and LaVerne King. Interment was in the Delphos cemetery with the McDonald Funeral Home of Glasco in charge.
