Caleb's father was Robert Davis I.

Caleb had a brother, Robert Davis II, (buried in Wilbur Cemetery, Tyler County, WV), a brother, John Davis I, (1774-1859), also buried in Wilbur, another brother who was not physically strong, whose name is unknown, and a sister whose name is also unknown.

He married Margery McCracken Davis and they had the following children:

Rebecca 1806 -
Charles 1808 - 1869
Hannah (Davis) Gorrell 1811 -
Alexander McCracken Davis 1813 - 1888
Mary Miriam "Mezza" (Davis) Riggs 1815 - 1890
Sarah (Davis) Lowther 1817 -
Elizabeth Davis 1822 - 1902
Caleb Davis II 1824 -
Robert W. Davis 1825 - 1876
Margery Jane (Davis) Fordyce 1828 - 1912
Michael (Davis) McCann 1831 -

Caleb moved from Morgantown to Tyler County, WV in 1820 and settled on Middle Island Creek, then called Diana River, not far from the site of Joseph's Mills.

Caleb's family sympathized with the South during the Civil War, which differed from the family of his brother, Robert II, who cast their lot with the North.

NOTE: The above information came from the book "The Davis Family Tree" compiled in 1958 by Henry A. Davis.

He died from "old age." The Death Register records that E. Davis, wife, was the informant. There are two problems with E. Davis being "his wife." First of all, his wife's name was Margery. And, secondly, according to her grave stone, his wife died in 1868. Perhaps, it was Elizabeth Davis, his daughter, or, his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (his son Robert's wife) who was the informant.
