From the Bismarck, North Dakota "Semi-Weekly Tribune" dated April 25, 1877, page 1:
FORT BUFORD, April 18....
"Jimmy from Cork" died at the post hospital on the 15th inst. His true name was John Bagley, and perhaps no man in this section of the country was so widely known as he has been by the former congomen, and so little known by his real name. He came from California in 1861 and since that time traveled largely in the territories, most of the time during late years in government employ as a mail carrier. His disease was "abdominal tumor." The tumor which was removed after his death was found to weigh 15 pounds, and his liver ten pounds. He was buried today in the post cemetery.
