TOBACCOVILLE - Mr. John Bukas of Ridge Road, Tobaccoville, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 8, 1916, in McKeesport, Pa., to the late Steve Bukas and Catherine Bukas. He served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army, seeing duty in Hawaii, Osaka, Japan, Singapore, Guam and the Philippines. After the war he returned to work at Aetna Standard Engineering Co. in Warren, Ohio. He moved to Tobaccoville in 1948 and graduated from Draughn Business College. He went to work for Western Electric in 1950 and retired after 27 years. In addition to his parents Mr. Bukas was preceded in death by his sisters Katie Bukas of Hungary, Agnes Mustades of Warren, Ohio, and Tucson, Ariz., Mary Zilke of Youngstown, Ohio, and Austin, Texas, and Betty Regina and Julia Geraine, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and his brothers George Bukas of Brooklyn and Youngstown, Steve Bukas of Warren and Tobaccoville and Joe Bukas of Warren. Surviving are his wife of 59 and one-half years, Mrs. Cleo Sprinkle Bukas of the home; a sister, Elenor Franklin of New York; two sons, Tony Wayne Sprinkle and friend Shirley of Birmingham, Ala., and John Dean Bukas and wife Rose of Tobaccoville; three grandchildren, Aletha Ritchey and husband Darrell, Roger Sprinkle and a special granddaughter, Sherri Bukas Bowman and husband Eddie of Tobaccoville; and four great-grandchildren, Justin and Melissa Ritchey, Brandon Dean and Brooke Haleigh Bowman, who were very special. Mr. Bukas was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather (Papa Johnny). The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel conducted by Dr. Judson J. Milam and Bobby Long. Burial with military rites by American Legion Post 290 will be at Forsyth Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 357 Old Hollow Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105, or to New Bethel Baptist Church, Perpetual Care Cemetery Fund, c/o Nina Robbins, 4915 Leinbach Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
