An early gold seeker who emigrated to CA in 1849. He removed to OR in 1851 locating in Sterling where for 26 years had interest in mines and mining. He later located to the Rogue Valley settling 2 miles south of Medford, where he purchased a farm of 150 acres. If he is Fred's brother, then he would have been a son of Claus and Frances, but isn't listed with their other children.
1920 census for Ashland, Jackson, OR shows granddaughters Esther (18) and Doris (17) living with Catharine Van Dyke who is age 52 and widowed. She is their aunt because they are daughters of son Arthur.
