John Whitwell married Permelia Adeline Campbell on 8 November 1880 at Perry County, Tennessee.

Children born to this union were:
Edward Elijah Whitwell
Mattie Ether Whitwell
Oscar Whitwell
Noah Leonard Whitwell
Minnie May Whitwell
Bertha L. Whitwell
Rev. Elbert Moncie Whitwell

I remember "Aunt Bert" really well. What a swell gal!

Uncle Moncie called me on the phone one day and we just chatted about the family for two hours. He told me things I never heard about the Whitwell family.

This is my great-grandfather.

His father, Elijah Whitwell was killed on 30 November 1864 in the Civil War at Franklin, Tennessee. He is buried in the Confederate cemetery at Franklin, Tennessee. He and Jincy had only been married 13 years before he was killed. After her husband's death, Mrs. Jincy Angeline [Randell] Whitwell married Joseph W. Dabbs on 16 November 1872 at Perry County, Tennessee.
