Anderson Hicks was the son of John Hicks and Serena Parton. His first wife was Margaret Harper with whom he had two daughters - Nancy Laura Hicks (b. March 1878) and Marilda "Rilda" Hicks Mantooth (b. 29 February 1880)

Anderson married Nancy Jane Holder Price on 19 November 1895 in Cocke County. Together they had three children: Ernest Hugh Hicks (b. 17 July 1896 d. 21 June 1960), Della Hicks (b. 11 April 1899 d. 21 January 1971), and Arlie Hugh Hicks (b. 1 April 1901 d. 19 January 1981)

In the 1910 Census, Nancy and her children are found in Cocke county Tennessee but Anderson is not listed. Anderson's youngest son stated that he believes that his father died around 1915. By 1920 the family was living in Gastonia, NC.

Anderson's grave has been found in the Harper-Raines Family Cemetery. He is buried next to his first wife Margaret Harper Hicks.
