Harmen Jansen was born in Golenkamp, Germany, and the first of ten children born to Berend and Lyda Jansen. He emigrated to the US, and saved money to bring his parents and nine siblings to America. He married Zwantje "Fannie" Hamberg with whom he had three sons: John, Burt and William Arthur; and two daughters: Lena (Cornelius) Diepenhorst and Hattie (John) Hilbrand. After his first wife's death, he married Geziena Vos Bos, who died on 7 Sep 1934, and then on 4 Apr 1935, he married Susie Dreyer. He died at his home in Holland, MI.

Harm Johnson, 71, died Wednesday evening at his home, 168 W. Eighth St. Surviving are the widow and four children, John, Bert and William, all of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Nettie Hildebrand, of Grant; 16 grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters, John of Grant, Albert of Zeeland, Henry of Hamilton, Mrs. John Kruithof of Drenthe, Mrs. Ben Ende of Holland, Mrs. Harry Rice of Holland, and Mrs. Charles Underkircher of Kalamazoo. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the home, private, and at 2 p.m. at the Central Avenue Christian Reformed Church, with the Rev. L. Veltkamp officiating. Burial will be in Overisel Cemetery.
