He was raised in Comstock, TX. He graduated St. Edwards Military Academy in June, 1945, and attended Notre Dame University from November 1945 to August 1949, graduating with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, he worked on the family ranch in Comstock, TX and the family farm in Corpus Christri, TX. He received his private pilots license in July, 1950. He married Irene Elizabeth Degenardt on January 16, 1952. Pat farmed and was a co-owner of Coastal Bend Fertilizer and Implement in Corpus Christi with his brother John. He was president of the Nueces County Farm Bureau in 1963. In 1965, he left farming to pursue a career in Engineering, and became a member of the Society of Professional Engineers in 1967. In 1971 he joined Suntide Refinery, which later became Koch Industries where he worked until his retirement in 1993. He will be remembered for his generosity, quick wit and spontaneously breaking out into song, English or Spanish, when the mood struck him. Pat loved to entertain others with his reminiscent stories that always included his beloved friends and family. He also maintained a strong loyalty to his alma mater, Notre Dame, diligently following and cheering for their football program.
