Born September 26, 1918, in Covington, VA, she was the daughter of the late Abraham McKinley Acord (1879-1954) and Leona Cook-Acord (1881-1930). In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two husbands, first husband, Henderson "Pierce" Acord (1912-1948) whom she married on August 8, 1936 in Oceana, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License, Wyoming County, WV, 1936, Page 383, Application Date: August 3, 1936), and her second husband, Herbert Reed (1917-1998) whom she married on March 25, 1950 in Oceana, Wyoming County, 1950, Page 303, Application Date: March 23, 1950); two sons, Pierce Acord (Deceased) and Aubrey Dale Acord (Deceased); sisters and brothers, Noah Everett Acord (1904-1961), Ona Acord-Blevins-Roles (1907-1979), Letha Acord-McGraw (1911-1976), Eula E. Acord-Brooks (1914-1979), Linnie Acord-Sizemore (1921-Deceased), Boyd Acord (1923-1990), Lloyd Clinton Acord (1923-2001), Piney Acord-Massie (Deceased), Sadie Acord-Nedrow (Deceased), & Maude Acord-Sizemore (Deceased).
Those left to cherish her memory are four sons, Franklin Delano Acord, Sr., (1938-2016) & wife Lena Acord of Elkins, Kennie Roger Acord (1942-2020) & wife Sue Sizemore-Acord of Matheny, Coy Blake Acord (1949-2020) & wife Lottie Odom-Acord of VA, and Hebert Steven "Steve" Reed & wife Shirley Reed of Matheny; four daughters, Nancy Jean Acord-Frazier of Chester, VA, Clarice K. Acord-Bailey & husband Winifred Bailey of Shelby Township, MI, Linda G. Acord-Lilly & husband Dewey Lilly of Prince George, VA, and Eileen R. Acord-Stewart of Chester, VA; a stepdaughter, Earlia D. Reed-Derringer & husband Jack Derringer of Hazel Park, MI; a sister-in-law, Mildred Acord of Oceana; twenty nine grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; two daughter-in-laws, Glenna Acord and Peggy Acord both of VA; several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
A celebration of Mrs. Reed's life will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel with Rev. David White officiating. Mrs. Reed will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV.
