Married twice:
1. 17 Mar 1796 New Hampshire to Hannah Favor.
To their union was born 12 children:
Favour Locke, Roxy Locke, Sherburn Locke, Lavina Locke, Joanna Locke, Philena Favor Locke, Benjamin Locke, Hannah Locke, Sally D Locke, Levi Locke, Dorothy Sergeant Locke and Harriet Locke.
2. 28 Jul 1826 Bristol, Grafton, New Hampshire to Nancy Gurdy.
To their union was born a daughter, Susan D Locke.
Benjamin came to Bristol, Grafton, New Hampshire in 1785, when he was 15 years of age, and made his home with his uncle, Thomas Locke. Three years later, he shouldered a pack of provision, and with an ax in hand penetrated the wilderness seven miles on Bridgewater Hill, and built a hut and cleared land for a home. After spending a year or two in this lonely retreat, during which time he was constantly annoyed by bears and other wild animals, he sold, and located in the neighborhood that was destined to take his name, the Locke Neighborhood. After his married to Hannah, they commenced life in a log cabin of two rooms near where the schoolhouse later stood. Later, he erected a more commodious house near where Stephen Staples later resided, and here nearly all of his children were born. On 27 May 1822, during the absence of the family, this home, with all the comforts and conveniences of the day, was destroyed by fire. With characteristic energy, he erected another house, though comparatively poor, for the shelter of the family. Benjamin was a man of marked individuality, a leader in thought and influence in town. He and his wives were prominent Methodists, and their home was always open to the itinerant Preacher. He was a man of great piety and great strength of lungs, and at a meeting in the schoolhouse when thirteen were converted his shouts were heard more than a mile distant.
