He received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received while providing medical care to a fallen soldier. // After the war, Wise returned to his home in Crooked Oak to continue farming.//Wise married Autra Largen on 1 December 1945 in Carroll Co, Va. That marriage ended in divorce. He married Mary Clericy McGrady, daughter of Ellis McGrady and Goldie E. Webb McGrady on 5 March 1950.// Wise and Mary had one child, a daughter, Joann.
