My grandmother was very quite an reserved mother of 14 she had 7 daughters 7 sons 4 died very young children. she always told us she was cherokee indian an was told never to speak of it she told certain grandchildren they would be called the N- word because they where very dark, but said we are indian so i researched the name later in my adult life an found her brother lised a native american on his military reg. Granny would tell us Jim Thorpe was her mothers cousin i knew he was indian by what she would say an remember seeing him a a wheaties box. I remember receiving some kind of indian ietm from her i lost by the time i got the age of 15/16 i really believe some one stole it! Anna despite her many downs she always made a way for her babies grand babies, any other person whom may need her help a hobo could sleep on her porch in the summer an receive a hot meal even though she had only enough for her famili, she was a very proud woman she came from many mix backgrounds, but i found the famili to hide inside many races inorder to not be taunted. her bro. charles live as they lived next door to the icehouse next to the railroad staion theire parent owned a boarding home they also live next door to the KKK an bro charles worked in the KKK business esablisment serving them an whereing his Indian Head Dress so he would not be hurt or tauned by the Klan, They rare a proud people but coming from the great grandaughter of chief black hawk i would say she was a famous person!!!!!
