Elenor was the youngest of seven children born to Elizabeth Halferty and Sam Patterson. Due to Sam's military service, the Patterson family moved several times. Following his death in 1957, the family made a final relocation to Des Moines, Iowa. There, Elenor met and married John Quinn on 27 Aug 1964, and they had two children. The Quinn family moved from Des Moines to Atwater, California, in the 1970s.
