Mary T. Cuffe, who served in the Navy during World War II, died Monday at Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem following a long illness. She was 74.
Born in Marblehead, Mrs. Cuffe graduated from Marblehead High School in 1938 and lived in the town all her life. She worked as a secretary at Upton Insurance Agency in Marblehead for 15 years before retiring.
Mrs. Cuffe served in the US Navy as a WAVE during World War II and as an X-ray technician in California at Camp Pendleton and Fort Ord.
A communicant of Our Lady of the Sea Church in Marblehead, she was a member of the Woman's Guild and the Mothers Club. She served as a volunteer for many church activities.
Mrs. Cuffe leaves her husband, retired Marblehead police officer P. Joseph Cuffe; a son, Peter J. of Marblehead; a daughter, Carol M. Davis of Pleasanton, Calif.; two sisters, Rose Manning of Marblehead and Margaret Moran of South Yarmouth; and a grandson.
A funeral Mass will be said tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church at Marblehead. Burial will be in Waterside Cemetery in Marblehead.
